We were very excited visiting the Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi. My son is a huge fan of archaeology, fossils, and all things dinosaurs. So, the moment we heard this museum was opening in Abu Dhabi, we knew we weren’t going to wait long. And we didn’t.
As a family that loves discovering new attractions in the UAE, this museum immediately went to the top of our must-visit list. From prehistoric dinosaurs and rare fossils to fascinating exhibits that bring Earth’s history to life, we couldn’t wait to see what was inside. Here’s my honest family review of the Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi.

The drive from Dubai to Saadiyat Island is easy and straightforward. We used Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road ( E311) and followed the sign to Sheikh Zayed Road. Once we reached, we found a parking easily. There’s a free parking in front of the museum.
As I walked inside the white buildings, I was already impressed. And by the end of the tour, I can say it’s one of the most genuinely impressive indoor experiences I’ve had in the UAE.
I’ll be honest, even I, who tagged along mostly for my son, was completely blown away. Spanning 35,000 square metres, it is the largest natural history museum in the Middle East. It opened to the public in November 2025 in Saadiyat Cultural District.
This museum is not only great for children. Adults who want to learn more about nature and history will enjoy it too. You can easily pair it with a visit to the Louvre Abu Dhabi. Or the National Aquarium of Abu Dhabi which is also great for kids who love to learn more about animals and animal conservation in the UAE.
In our case, we visited the Natural History museum in the morning and headed for lunch at Mamsha Al Sadiyat, which is a few minutes’ drive from Saadiyat Island. Then we went to the Louvre Museum in the afternoon.
Before I get into the highlights, here’s the most important thing for UAE families. Children under 18 enter completely free. Adults pay 70 AED. That’s an extraordinary deal for what you get inside.

We had a guide from the museum who toured us around. You can request for this service if you want more in-depth explanation of what you are looking at. When we went inside, our guide explained about the two long-necked dinosaurs in the entrance of the museum. Those were shipped and excavated from Wyoming, USA.

The first gallery is called The Story of Earth gallery. It’s all about meteorites, rocks and gemstones. And yes, they are very interesting. One of the most fascinating exhibits is Gibeon iron meteorite which was found in 1836 in Namibia. But what took our breath away was a real lunar meteorite. Yes, a rock from the moon that landed on Earth. And we were able to touch it. That’s the best thing in the museum, kids can touch and feel some of the exhibits.

One of the things we loved most about the museum is that it isn’t a “look but don’t touch” experience. Several exhibits are interactive, allowing children to touch, explore, and engage with the displays, making the visit much more memorable and educational.
The Evolving World Gallery: Meet Stan, the T. rex

The second gallery is where dinosaurs take centre stage. It’s the most exciting parts of the museum for kids. Here you’ll come face-to-face with Stan, the world-famous Tyrannosaurus rex. It’s one of the most complete T. rex skeletons ever discovered. We were very excited to see this part of the museum and were not disappointed at all.
But Stan isn’t the only star of the show. The gallery is filled with impressive dinosaur fossils, life-sized prehistoric creatures, and interactive displays that bring the ancient world to life.
If you’re visiting the museum for the first time, make sure to leave an ample time in this gallery alone. Your kids and you will surely love this part of the museum.
Beyond the Dinosaurs: More Exhibits Kids Will Love
- Lucy the human fossil is one of the most prominent exhibits I couldn’t forget. She was a 3.2-million-year-old early human ancestor who stood about 3.5 feet tall. Scientist discovered 40% of her skeletons in Ethiopia. Apparently, she’s one of the most complete early human fossils ever found. Seeing her is truly fascinating as she gave us a glimpse of the past and the evolution of humans.
- One of the most impressive exhibits at the Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi is the enormous whale skeleton that we saw hanging on the ceiling. The blue whale is the largest animal ever known to have lived on Earth, even larger than the biggest dinosaurs. But what’s more interesting? Many whale skeletons’ exhibit at the museum were discovered in Abu Dhabi’s coastline. Located in the Lost World of Abu Dhabi gallery, these exhibits are a proof of Abu Dhabi’s rich natural history.
- Another fascinating exhibit that my kids loved was Dodo, a bird that is now extinct. This display reminds visitors how important it is to protect animals and take care of our planet so that more species do not disappear forever. You can find this exhibit at the Our World Gallery!

Where to Dine?
Dining for lunch is not a problem in Saadiyat Island. But we wanted to discover and explore more, so we went to Antonia, an Italian restaurant in Abu Dhabi with beautiful sea views. It’s located in Mamsha Al Saadiyat, a beachfront dining destination on Saadiyat Island known for its restaurants, cafés, and relaxing seaside atmosphere. There are a lot of restaurants and coffee shops there, so you have lots of choices when looking for places to eat in Abu Dhabi.

I really enjoyed dining at Antonia. Their pasta and appetizers are to die for. My kids also loved their pizzas and gelatos, making it a great family-friendly restaurant in Abu Dhabi.
Our visit to the Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi was a success. All my kids loved and enjoyed the tour and exploring the fascinating exhibits. So, I encourage you to visit this family-friendly museum in Abu Dhabi this summer. Learning is not only limited to the four walls of the school. The Natural History Museum Abu Dhabi is a learning destination as well as an enjoyable activity during the hot season in the UAE. It is one of the best indoor attractions in Abu Dhabi for families, offering educational experiences about dinosaurs, fossils, meteorites, wildlife, and the natural world.
